Uniqueness

Standout: There are no creative writing programs that allow children to improve their spelling vocabulary and spelling ability through a magical spelling App.

Point of difference:

  • Spellwick is an application that is geared around helping children to have better literacy through learning how to spell.
  • Its goal is to make children become better spellers and thus more confident creative writers.
  • The app is built around the concept of quality and quantity, where children start off seeing words, then learn to write them and;
  • Finally, understand how to use them in writing.
  • The experience is centred around learning in context, meaning that what is learnt will stick in the child’s memory.

Logo

Quirk:

  • The magical fruit universe comic strip which sets the scene to highly motivate children to spell in a magical world where they spell for increased wand power in order to defeat the evil wizards that have invaded the planet.
  • It’s the ability for children to create avatars with magical witch money.
  • It’s the way I have used spelling words at the base of my creative writing program in order to give children the confidence to write amazing stories and it’s the hierarchical literacy web that I have created.

Innovation

Inventiveness:

  1. Spellwick incorporates repetition of words across three spelling games in order to consolidate spelling speed and memory as well as develop the memory path in the brain;
  2. Spellwick educates to unlock creative potential in children by teaching them how to spell and write throughout the engaging game.
  3. It helps children globally learn how to spell and write through Gamification
  4. It allows children to be creative and love to spell.
  5. It’s created by an educator with three university teaching degrees;
  6. It gives parents help with around the area of spelling and writing at an affordable cost;
  7. It provides writing examples at three difficulty levels using the words in the App;
  8. Provides highly structured writing proformas.

Commercial Success:

  1. A Gamification online spelling and creative writing program that doesn’t exist in schools today.
  2. Writing programs at schools are not structured or motivating enough for children especially those with spelling and creative writing difficulties.
  3. Most parents will spend any amount of money to help their children improve their spelling or writing skills.
  4. This program can replace the high cost of a speech pathologist to improve a child’s creative writing ability.

Sustainability

Economical Sustainability

  • Continual testing.
  • Have written another planet with new words in order to keep the momentum going and create another planet of my literacy universe if I have the money
  • Have written a mathematics planet to go into a mathematics universe as these days developers are developing multiple Apps in order to keep up the momentum.
  • Have written additional children’s readers and created a concept of Lolly Launchers that are additional characters that exist on my magical planets.

Environmental Sustainability

  • Entire program will be online and in the form of an App.

Social Sustainability

  • App and associated creative writing program will allow its current users and users of the next generation to share stories that they have written with each other globally by posting them on my website. It will bring happiness to children by reading their amazing stories to friends, family and their classmates or by having a pen pal story friend. This happiness will lead to empowerment which will filter into other areas of the child’s life as well as motivate them to write more stories. When other children see the joy that my program brings to others around them it will motivate them to write too.

Why should you win this competition?

I should win this competition because:

  • I have spent 4 years of my life putting all my love, passion, research and experience into developing what I think is a brilliant App and creative writing program.
  • I have had a very stressful journey with incompetent developers and have invested $60 000 in App development costs.
  • I have gained the R&D government grant but have had poor guidance from past people that have led to much heartache.
  • My heart is burning with passion about what I have created and I am willing to put in everything to make it work.
  • I need commercial guidance and funding in order to SHINE to my full potential.
  • I’ll give a percentage of earnings to a literacy foundation.
  • My program will allow children, particularly boys, to be motivated to write and think creatively as well as structure their ideas coherently.
  • It will put a smile on many children’s faces as they ‘SHINE’ when they share their wonderful stories with others.
  • If I win I will work as hard as I can to extend my program to as many children across the globe.
  • I’ll create a motivating literacy and numeracy universe where children will love to learn.
