BRIGHT but fledgling business ideas, including a head-turning bicycle design and a creative writing program for kids, have been named as finalists in this year’s CoSydney Shine Award.

Five finalists have been selected and co-founder of the Chippendale creative collective Vinh Van Lam has urged Central readers to get online and cast their vote for the most promising idea.

The first, from Waterloo-based Peter Bortolin, is for the Kangaroo Bike. This invention revolutionises the pedal-action on a pushbike, creating more torque and hence more power.

Patrick Nguyen’s Accessible Australia proposal provides a centralised resource for people living with a disability who would like to travel with more ease.

Jay Boolkin, of Bondi, proposes Promise or Pay, a mobile phone app that urges users to stick to their self-improvement vows or cough up cash to a charity.

Small Things Home, proposed by Jo Vandeleur, is a piece of software that allows those creating a will to catalogue their items and each item’s recipient in a digital form.

And Danielle Gerber’s Spellwick proposal is a creative writing program designed to improve spelling and vocabulary. View the finalists at http://cosydney.com.au/shine2015-peopleschoice
